SELECTMEN’S MINUTES

Date:  July 28, 2010

 

 

I.      OPEN MEETING

The meeting was opened by Don Carroll leading the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

A.   ROLL CALL

Donald Carroll, Lois Hawes, George Hockstadter, and Terry White.  Brenda Clark was absent.

 

B.   MINUTES OF THE MEETING

 

1.     Approve  Selectmen Meeting Minutes of July 14, 2010

Upon motion by Lois Hawes, seconded by George Hockstadter, it was voted 4 to 0 to approve the July 14, 2010 meeting minutes.

 

C.  QUIT CLAIM DEEDS 

                        None.

               

            D.   WARRANT

           

1.        Payroll Warrant – Approve warrant  # 3

Upon motion by George Hockstadter, seconded by Terry White, it was voted 4 to 0 to approve Warrant #3.

 

2.        Expenditures – Approve warrant  # 4

Upon motion by Terry White, seconded by George Hockstadter, it was voted 4 to 0 to approve Warrant #4.

Upon motion by Lois Hawes, seconded by George Hockstadter, it was voted 4 to 0 to transfer $33,000.00.

 

 

E.    BOARD OF ASSESSORS

            Don Carroll informed the Board that the County Commissioners were in Stetson to deal with the appeal process on the Fireplace/Hearth issue.  Don felt the onsite meeting went well and that we will have the Commissioners decision soon.

           

            Don also reported that although we do not have the final mill rate set, it looks like it we be somewhere around 13.70 which will provide an overlay of approximately $35,000.

 

II.    OLD BUSINESS

 

 

1.    Mowing Bids

 

There were 4 bids received:

M & R Construction of Levant                $1,200.00

C.I. Douerty & Family of Corrinna          $1,600.00

Baker Seasonal Services of Stetson    $1050.00

Venan N Knowles (?) (illegible)              $1045.00

 

            Upon motion by George Hockstadter, seconded by Terry White, it was voted 3 to 0 to accept Baker Seasonal Services bid of $1050.00.  (Lois Hawes abstained from voting.

 

 

III.   NEW BUSINESS

 

1.     Maple trees on Lapoint Road

Don Carroll informed the board that he had contacted 4 companies for prices to take dealing with the Maple trees on the Lapoint Road.  The trees are rotted and dangerous.  Don received only 1 quote:  $2,400.00, the trees will be cut and chipped and area cleaned up.  The wood from the trees will be left to the property owners.  Terry White had received a similar bid for the removal of only 8 trees.

Upon motion by George Hockstadter, seconded by Terry White, it was voted 4 to 0 to go with the bid that Don Carroll received of $2,400.00 for removal of 12 trees.

 

 

 

     IV. COMMITTEE REPORT

A.   ANIMAL CONTROL        

Phil Foster was present, and questioned the Board about the veterinarian that is used at the local rabies clinic.  Mr. Foster requested additional shots be offered and for that help be brought to the clinic to help contain the animals                  

           B.  APPEALS BOARD  Will soon be having a meeting.

C.   CEMETERY       

D.   CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER   The name needs to be changed in the News Letter.                 

            E.  E911           Nothing.

            F.  EDUCATION            Nothing.

            G.  EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS COMMITTEE    Nothing.                   

            H.  EMT/RESCUE                 Nothing.

             I.   FIRE DEPARTMENT                Nothing.

            J.  MEETINGHOUSE           Lois Hawes complimented the new paint at the meetinghouse.

K   PARKS & RECREATION   Looking forward to new directors, and new direction.                  

L.  PLANNING BOARD       Will be considering a Certificate of Occupancy at their next meeting.   

            M. PLUMBING INSPECTOR         Nothing.      

N. RECYCLING & SOLID WASTE COLLECTION   The numbers are still up and going well.                                      

            O. ROAD COMMISSIONER    John Biggar is working out of town, and there are no major projects going at this time.            

P.   STATE LEGISLATIVE CORRESP      Don Carroll was elected and the first meeting is October 13.

Q.   TREASURER     Reported that 30 day notices will be sent out on Friday.

R.   WELFARE DIRECTOR                        Nothing.                     

S.   MEMORIAL COMMITTEE        Marlene Webber stated the Memorial looks great. 

Also stated that if additional names are to be added to the stone at this time, the person will have to pay themselves.

 

 

 

T.    OTHER   

Nothing.

 

V.           TRAINING

Nothing.

 

VI.          PUBLIC COMMENTS    

Mr. Frappier questioned the date of the appeals meeting.

Upon motion by Terry White, seconded by Lois Hawes, it was voted 4 to 0 to adjourn the meeting at 6:55 p.m.
