SELECTMEN’S MEETING MINUTES

07/5/06 @ 6:00PM

 

I. OPEN MEETING

A. Mr. Buchstaber opened the meeting by stating that the open session had been moved to the end of the meeting so that the selectman could get though their business and let people speak at the end.

Present: Mr. Buchstaber, Mr. Hockstadter, and Ms. Babcock;

C. MINUTES OF THE MEETING 07/03/06 were viewed and signed by the Board.

II. OLD BUSINESS

A. Smethurst Variance – Mr. Buchstaber stated that Mr. Carroll, Mr. Hipsky and Mr. Hockstadter had decided to drop the case but it wasn’t their case to drop. The town of Stetson Lawyer and Mr. Smethurst’s lawyer are in discussion now about what both parties are going to do. Mr. Buchstaber also stated that the when the new selectman is voted in, that Mr. Hockstadter and the new selectman would address the issue and give Mr. Smethurst a grandfathered lot. Mr. Buchstaber ending by stating that nothing would be decided on until the new selectman was appointed, because Mr. Buchstaber was listing the property for Mr. Smethurst.

III. NEW BUSINESS

A. Wayne Hawes wrote a letter to the selectmen asking if his half of the mowing contract would be paid at tonight’s meeting. Mr. Buchstaber stated that we will be paying warrants at the next selectmen’s meeting

B. Buda Belly’s wrote a letter to the selectmen stating that all town accounts except Stetson Fire Department and Stetson EMS were shut off. Mr. Buchstaber summed up the letter by saying that basically Buda Belly’s does not want to do business with the town except for with the Fire Department and the EMS.

C. PUC sent a letter to all towns stating that public phones are available for the town. Mr. Buchstaber stated that since Buda Belly’s no longer has a public pay phone for whatever reasons, we would be calling PUC to have one installed at the town office.

D. Webber price protection was locked in by Mr. Hockstadter at $2.47.
Mr. Tracy asked with or not this included diesel. Mr. Buchstaber told him that he was not sure but he would check into it.
Mr. Butler asked whether or not we checked around with other companies. Mr. Hockstadter answered him by stating that Webber Oil takes care of the furnaces and that’s why the town went with Webber

E. Rolling Thunder sent the town a letter stating that the rates are going up

F. USDA sent a letter to the town about a farm committee and he asked if anyone was interested in joining it. If anyone was there was information available.

G. Health Officer position was offered to Travis Gould.

H. MMA Survey was sent to the town asking about salaries. It will be filled out and sent back in.

I. Maine Welfare Association sent the town a renewal form.

IV. COMMITTEE REPORTS

A. ANIMAL CONTROL – All licenses and tags were sent back by Ms. Ham and Ms. Biggar

B. APPEALS BOARD

C. CEMETERY on the Coboro Rd. has a couple of trees that need to be cut down. Mr. Babcock will cut them down $250. The selectmen are going to have a look at it and then put it up for bid.

D. CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER/PLUMBING INSPECTOR

E. EDUCATION MSAD #64 minutes were not reviewed

F. FIRE DEPARTMENT all officers will be sworn in at the next Fire Department meeting

G. HISTORICAL SOCIETY

H. MEETINGHOUSE

I. PARK & RECREATION Roger Collins was sworn in earlier that day and if anyone is interested in helping out please get in touch with Roger Collins.

J. PLANNING BOARD All members will be sworn in at the next Planning board meeting and there business in there agenda. There is a position available on the planning board for secretary. Training is available for that position if anyone is interested.

K. LIBRARY

L. RECYCLING & SOLID WASTE COLLECTION The Maine Resource Recovery Association is asking for a renewal of membership. Mr. Buchstaber proposed for the up coming election to build a transfer station

M. ROAD COMMISSIONER Mr. Buchstaber stated that the mowing of the side of the sides of the roads was going up of bid. Mr. Buchstaber also stated that if there are pot holes on your road feel free to call the Town Office and let us know so that we can pass it on to Mr. Merrill

N. TREASURER of Maine overpaid us last year by $1490.37 to correct the error they are going to pay us less until it is all paid.

VI. TRAINING the new town clerks are being sent to every training opportunity available.

VII. OPEN SESSION

A member of the audience asked about starting Resolution Committee. Mr. Buchstaber answered by stating that the town doesn’t need a resolution committee therefore we are not starting one. Members of the audience inquired about the hiring of town employees. Mr. Buchstaber and Mr. Hockstadter answered them by stating that they did everything legally and that they were not going to open the application process back up.
